The
Tsunami disaster relief fund raising campaign launched by TRO (Canada) has
proved to be a great success. So far it has raised over $900,000 out of which
$775,000 has already been remitted to TRO, Colombo.
A further sum of $ 50,000 has ben used to procure kitchen utensils from Thamil
Nadu for tsunami victims in Northeast.
Not only Thamil Canadians but members of other communities have also contributed
to TRO€™s campaign surpassing expectations. TRO is now collecting new cloths
and tin food to be sent to Northeast.
One
of the major contributors was Richmond Hill Pillayar Temple. Thiru. N.
Sivalingam gave a cheque for $50,000 pledging another $80,000 on behalf of the
Temple Trustees. Varasiththi Vinaayagar Hindu Temple donated $26,568.54. Yarvis
Sports Club gave $22,999.11.Sendhilkumaran gave $30050.00.
The Canadian Bharatha Natya Teachers Association organized €œNaatya Maalai€
to raise funds for tsunami victims last Saturday. Despite a heavy snow storm
thousands turned up for both the noon and evening events. A sum of $15,347.10
was handed over to Thiru Raj. Gunanathan, President, TRO.

being half the sales proceeds. |
