SUMMARY
Human Rights Awareness notices distributed to
Public
On the eve of
World Human Rights Day, Manitham-Trichy organised
to create awareness on the basics of human rights
at Trichy Central Bus stand on 10-12-2006.
Hence, we compiled the contents of UDHR and
distributed the hand bills to public and to our
surprise; many people came forward to receive it
and also clarified few details on the context of
human rights, where our advocates were there to
explain them.
The feed back for the hand bills came within an
hour over phone and more phone calls started
coming in, enquiring about the organisation,
regarding complaints, and also generally
appreciating about this hand bill.
We were also very glad that few people enquired
about joining Manitham and we have asked them call
on personally and later we shall scrutinize the
persons before enrolling.
In the evening, a meeting was arranged by an Ngo
at Sumangali Mahal, at Hotel Arun, where the
people on the dais were, the additional district
judge Mr. V Ramamurthy Prof. raja muthuirlandi,
member of human rights education for un [wrote 2
books on hr] dr. T jeyakumar, prof of eng, EVR
college, NSS co-ordinator Dr. T. Veeramani,
president of human rights voluntary service
organization Leader of Trichy district, Muslim
league correspondent of Jessie educational
institutions Er. Youssuf, president of corporation
development forum, Muslim literary society E. Paul
Guna Loganath, represented Manitham and few others
from Ngos and a gathering of nearly about 4oo. To
be really a useful session, where my topic was on
the UN declaration on human rights Vs the Indian
constitution - fundamental rights- article 21.
