In April 1993, near Paalar, Tamil Nadu, India,
located in hilly region and tick forest, where Mr.Veerappan, who is reportedly a
notorious sandwood operator and supporter of Tamils, operator on the border
districts of the States of Tamil Nadu, Karanataka and Kerala, said to be Land
mine to a police convoy. In that convoy, 22 police official & informers were
killed and several other were injured. On filing a case, Police detained 4
persons and kept behind the bars. TADA [(Terrorist & Disruptive Activities
Prevention Act) a special security legislation used in Indian between 1985 and
1995] case has been imposed. The special court aruged before Mysore Court and
orignially given life sentence to the persons :
1. Mr. Simon - Male [aged 37], Ottarathottai
2. Mr. Pelalenthren - Male [aged 53], Martalli
3. Mr. Gnanaprakasham - Male [aged 47], Santhanapalayam
4. Mr. Meesaikara Mathaiyan - Male [aged 57]
They seek appeal with Supreme Court against their Life Sentence. But the Supreme
Court has pronounced Capital Punishment on 29-01-2004 to the accused persons.
Speeding to implement this, the prison officials has been fixed hanging deadline
on April, 16 at Belgham Prison at Karnataka. Meanwhile, a mercy petition has
been filed on their behalf with the State Governor of Karnataka on 06-03-2004.
In India, only president of India and State Governors have the powers to commute
Death Penalty.
Eventhough the Supreme Court’s judgment on Death Penalty in this case, MANITHAM
believes that the verdict can be changed from the peoples court and with the
peoples support.

press our Indian government to sign on Moratorium on all execution with UN Human
