MANITHAM'S URGENT APPEAL:

MISSING 8 FISHERMEN & 2 BOATS

Tamilnadu Fisherman Youth Federation,
Ramanathapuram District,

Mechanised fishing boats numbering RMS 2896 and
RMS 2034 owned by Mr. A. Mathiyalagan and Mr. S.
Malairajan respectively were apprehended by Sri Lankan
Navy on 1.11.2003 while fishing in the sea along with
8 crews of the following details.

Crews of Boat No. RMS 2896:
1. Jegadesan s/o Maria John Manthope Rameswaram
2. Ganesan s/o Raja Lingam Vattanvalasai Ramnad
3. Murugesan s/o Muniyandi Usilankattuvalasai Rmd,
4. Kalidass s/o Sethu Manthope, Rameswaram.

Crews of Boat No. RMS 2034:
1. Vellaisamy s/o Krishna Thevar Verkote Rameswaram
2. Gunasekaran s/o Ramasamy Pasumpon Ramnad.
3. Murugavelu s/o Govindaraj
4. Aruldass s/o Chelliah, sevalpatti kannirajpuram

6 FISHERMEN RELEASED

MANITHAM received very first complaint from our Rameswaram member Mr. J. Jeron Kumar on 08-11-2003 that 8 fishermen and 2 mechanised fishing boats were missing on 01-11-2003 from Rameswaram shore located in Tamil Nadu, India.The complaint intimated us that they were also apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy personnels.

MANITHAM published this complaint in MANITHAM Discussion Group as well Urgent Appeal in our web site, which is open to public.

On our regular follow up actions, day before yesterday 6 fishermen has safely returned to their resident.

We are very happy to hear this news, but still 2 more fishermen were in the Sri Lanka prison and the boat has not been returned.

MANITHAM requesting the authorities to take immediate action for the release of the remining 2 fishermen and hand over the boats to the concerned persons.
